Last weekend a friend of mine was in town from New York and we went to grab dinner at the Cafeteria in Uptown. The restaurant itself is pretty kitchy but fun. The hallways are lined with plastic lunch trays. The bar area is pretty large and would be a good place to come watch a game. In the summer they also have a rooftop patio overlooking downtown Minneapolis. They have a fun drink menu, although I wish they got more in the spirit and did adult versions of some classic lunchroom drinks (like the Town Talk Diner did with adult milkshakes). The food is pretty hearty and good. I got the jerk chicken sandwich, which had a good level of spice. My friend got the Cuban, which also looked really tasty. The sandwiches come with the crinkle-cut fries, just like in high school! Our other friend got the macaroni and cheese, which was loaded with bacon and breadcrumbs. She said it was really heavy, but good (and maybe just a bit too much bacon, but is there really such a thing?). Overall, a fun place to eat and drink with friends.
