Album art reimagined

This is pretty neat. Thirty three and a third artists and designers have reinterpreted existing album covers from a bunch of different genres and reinvented them. I think my favorite is the Beck one with the Lego man! http://cargocollective.com/thirtythreepointthree#

Pizza Pizza Pizza!

Last weekend we went to dinner at Black Sheep Pizza, a joint in the Warehouse District of Minneapolis. All of their pizzas are cooked in a coal-fired pizza oven, which results in a flavorful smoky taste to the crust and makes it bubbly and crispy. They have a ton of unique ingredients to create your own pizzas. We started out with the chopped salad, which was very tasty and had the perfect amount of dressing on it. For pizza toppings we got pepperoni, garlic, and mozzarella cheese. My favorite thing was that they sliced the garlic cloves like pepperoni. Yum. The prices were affordable and the ambiance was cozy. I definitely recommend this place for people looking for pizza in the Twin Cities.

I'll admit, I like awesomely bad movies.

Getting that confession out of the way, last night I watched the movie "Just Wright," starring Queen Latifa and Common. It was cheesy, predictable, and unrealistic. But hey, I'll admit that the whole movie I just wanted Queen Latifa to find love. Unfortunately for her, she couldn't find a guy because she kept giving off the "homegirl" vibe. What makes this movie hilarious is that both Queen Latifa and Common have come from "serious," and somewhat "hardcore," rap careers. It's like Ice-T on Law & Order: SVU, but weirder. I wonder what starring in "Just Wright" does to your street cred....

Thoughts on Deadwood

This past few weeks, I've been watching seasons 1 and 2 of the HBO series "Deadwood." It has been very.... interesting. For the most part, I have no idea what's going on. The dialogue is so slurred and mumbled that it's extremely hard to get what they are saying. Basically, it's like watching a foreign film with no subtitles. Another interesting part of the show's dialogue is that every sentence includes one of the following works: c**t, c**ksucker, or f**k. This has potential for an interesting drinking game....  A couple years ago I watch the documentary, "The F Word," which is a mockumentary about the origins and uses of the f-word and the stigmas behind it. It's pretty funny and I just remembered that in the movie, they state that the show "Deadwood" says f**k the most times of any show ever on TV. And I can believe it! Overall, not a fan of Deadwood. I just don't like Westerns, I can't understand what they're saying, and apparently to be a woman in Deadwood, you pretty much have to be a prostitute. And I like the lead actor, Timothy Olyphant much more in FX's "Justified."

Lunch at the Edina Grill

Hi readers, sorry it has been a couple days! Jumping right back into it, last week we headed over to the 50th and France area in Edina, MN to get some shopping done. We had lunch at the Edina Grill, which was quite better than I expected it to be. I got Peter's Burger, which is topped with sweet pickle relish, caramelized onions, over-hard egg, and ketchup on sourdough. I've always avoided the egg on a burger because it seemed weird but lots of burgers that get raved about in the foodie community have egg on them, so I gave it a go. It was good! It doesn't add that much flavor in my opinion, just a little more salt and texture. My boyfriend got the recommended walleye burrito, which he thought was very tasty. I think if you're out in the suburbs, skip the chain restaurants and try a place like this!

I love Luce!

Last night I met a friend* at the Pizza Luce downtown. Just to warn you, this is going to be a biased post, since Luce is tied to many important events in my life (which I'm starting to realize is bizarre in itself). Pizza Luce has some of the best pizza I have ever had. They have so many options and every pizza I've ever eaten there has been super flavorful. The friend I met last night was a vegetarian (Luce has vegan-friendly options on its menu), so we got the Athena pizza, which has feta, artichoke, black and green olives, and red onions on it. As for their meat pizzas, all are pretty good. I love the Luce, which just has sausage, onion, and garlic on it. I'm not sure if Luce make their own sausage, but wherever it comes from, it's fantastic. Also, if you send to Caesar salads that are more hearty and garlic flavored, Luce has a great Caesar dressing. As for the bar, they have cheap early and late happy hours. Last night all of their tap beers, which includes a wide range of local brews, were only $3. And I hear the new Hopkins location serves breakfast. I will have to go check out that soon and post a review!

*This post is dedicated to Shannon Maroney, the ultimate Luce lover.

Mashup Mania

On NYE I'm going to the Brother Ali and the Hood Internet show at the downtown Marriott (it benefits high school music programs, for tickets go to: http://www.vegaproductions.tickets.musictoday.com/VegaProductions/moreInfo.aspx?event=137341&outlet=2200 ) Since I've seen Bother Ali a ton of times, I more excited for the mashup dance party the Hood Internet will get started. I've been gearing up by having mashup dance parties for one at my desk all week!

The Hood Internet is a Chicago-based duo (ABX and STV SLV0, who specialize in mashups of hip hop with indie rock. Personally, I think they're just as brilliant as Girl Talk and don't get half the credit deserved. The just came out with their Metric mashups, pairing the indie band Metric with rappers like Felt and Kanye West. All of their mashups can be downloaded for free on their site: http://www.thehoodinternet.com/

And with the end of 2010, another display of mashup brilliance emerges. Every year, DJs Adrian & Mysterious D compile and mix a continuous, CD-length compilation of the biggest Bootie mashup hits from that year, featuring many different deejays. I think my favorite of 2010 is either Big Booty Bitches in Miami (Bombs Away vs. LMFAO vs. Busta Rhymes vs. Sir Mix-A-Lot) or Folson Prison Gangstaz (Eazy-E vs. Johnny Cash).
